This website describes academic research projects. Nothing on this website constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. No software, model, algorithm, or dataset linked or referenced on this website has been evaluated or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any regulatory body. You may not use any content, code, or model associated with The Tensor Lab for clinical decision-making, patient care, or any purpose that could affect the health or safety of any individual. If you have a medical concern, consult a licensed healthcare provider. By continuing to use this website you acknowledge and agree to this disclaimer.
The Tensor Lab ("we," "us," or "the Lab") is an unincorporated, volunteer-led student research initiative. It is not a corporation, limited liability company, nonprofit, or any other formal legal entity. The Lab is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an agent of the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), or any other institution whose faculty appear on this site. Faculty physicians listed on this site participate in an individual advisory capacity; their appearance does not imply institutional sponsorship of the Lab.
Nothing in these Terms, your use of this website, or your submission of a fellowship application creates a partnership, joint venture, fiduciary relationship, agency, or employment relationship between you and The Tensor Lab, its founders, its directors, or any affiliated individual.
By accessing or using thetensorlab.org (the "Website") in any way — including browsing, linking to, or submitting a fellowship application — you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must immediately stop using the Website.
We make reasonable efforts to keep the Website current, but we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information on the site, including project descriptions, timelines, team rosters, faculty listings, or application deadlines. Information may change without notice.
The Website may contain forward-looking statements about the fellowship program, such as anticipated project outcomes, publication opportunities, or mentorship structures. These are aspirational descriptions, not guarantees or binding promises. No statement on this Website constitutes a binding offer, contract, or promise of any specific outcome.
Submitting an application does not entitle you to selection, an interview, or any response. Selection decisions are made at the sole and absolute discretion of The Tensor Lab's directors and affiliated medical student mentors. We are under no obligation to explain, justify, or disclose the reasons for any selection decision.
The Tensor Lab is a private, volunteer initiative and is not a covered employer or public accommodation. Selection is based on technical qualifications, project fit, and team compatibility. By submitting an application, you acknowledge that selection decisions are final and non-appealable, and you waive any claim of discrimination arising from the application or selection process.
By submitting application materials (including resumes, statements of interest, and any other documents), you grant The Tensor Lab a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use those materials solely for the purpose of evaluating your application. We will not use your application materials for any other commercial purpose. However, we are not responsible for the security of information transmitted via third-party platforms (such as Google Forms) and you submit materials at your own risk. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your data.
You acknowledge that you have not relied on any oral or written representation by The Tensor Lab — including statements on this Website, in emails, or during interviews — as a guarantee of acceptance, employment, compensation, academic credit, publication, or any other outcome. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make (including declining other opportunities) based on your expectation of participating in the fellowship.
The design, text, graphics, logos, and overall look and feel of this Website are the property of The Tensor Lab and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from this Website's content without prior written consent.
Research code and models referenced on this Website may be released under open-source licenses (such as MIT) as specified in their respective repositories. Those licenses govern your use of that code — not these Terms. Patient data and institutional datasets remain under the exclusive control of the respective faculty physician advisors and their home institutions.
This Website links to and relies on third-party services including but not limited to Google Forms, GitHub, Google Fonts, and institutional faculty profile pages. The Tensor Lab has no control over these services and assumes no responsibility for their content, availability, privacy practices, or security. Your use of any third-party service is governed by that service's own terms and policies. Any data you submit through a third-party platform (such as a Google Forms application) is subject to that platform's terms of service and privacy policy, and The Tensor Lab shall not be liable for any data breach, loss, or misuse by any third-party provider.
THE WEBSITE AND ALL CONTENT, MATERIALS, INFORMATION, SOFTWARE, AND SERVICES PROVIDED ON OR THROUGH THE WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Tensor Lab disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant that the Website will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE TENSOR LAB, ITS FOUNDERS, DIRECTORS, VOLUNTEERS, OR FACULTY ADVISORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — including but not limited to damages for loss of profits, goodwill, data, or other intangible losses — arising out of or relating to: (a) your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Website; (b) any content or information obtained from the Website; (c) the fellowship application process, including non-selection; (d) any reliance on statements, project descriptions, or other content on this Website; or (e) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data.
To the extent any liability cannot be fully disclaimed by law, the total cumulative liability of The Tensor Lab and its founders for all claims arising under or related to these Terms or the Website shall not exceed fifty U.S. dollars ($50.00).
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless The Tensor Lab, its founders, directors, volunteers, and faculty advisors from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Website; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any applicable law or regulation; or (d) any content or materials you submit to or through the Website.
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Website, or the fellowship application process ("Dispute") shall first be submitted to informal negotiation by contacting contact@thetensorlab.org. If the Dispute is not resolved within thirty (30) days, it shall be finally resolved by binding arbitration administered under the rules of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), conducted in San Francisco, California. The arbitrator's award shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
You agree that any Dispute will be resolved solely on an individual basis. You waive any right to bring or participate in a class action, collective action, or representative proceeding of any kind. You also waive any right to a trial by jury.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and The Tensor Lab regarding your use of the Website and supersede all prior or contemporaneous oral or written communications, proposals, and representations. No oral statement by any director, volunteer, or representative of The Tensor Lab shall modify these Terms.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on this page. Your continued use of the Website after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
